Hey people, if you have an extra bed, we have volunteers coming who need them. From the email:
Have a spare bedroom? We need your help! We have volunteers coming in from
around the country to help us get out the vote! We need homes for these
volunteers from February 29th - March 5th. They will be hard at work all day
long, but we would love for them to have a home to sleep in at night.

We have a staffer in our house now. They aren't around much, they just need a place to crash. So be kind and give someone a space to rest.
Posted by monkey at February 24, 2008 10:00 AMHiya guys! Glad to see you folks so excited and working so hard out there in Texas! I've looked at all your photos...looks like fun. :)
The more this primary drags on, the more my heart is behind Obama. Hillary's campaign is scratching and clawing to get out of the hole right now...both financially and strategically...and I don't think she's doing very well at either. But more importantly, one can only be inspired and amazed at the energy and passion that Obama's campaign of hope is generating. Should he win the White House - and obviously I hope he does - the world, this country and the individuals that make up both are going to have extremely high expectations of what he's going to get done. I guess the only thing that concerns me is what happens with the first disappointment. We KNOW there will be SOMETHING that disappoints us...nobody is that perfect.
I hope that like the residual activism we've seen live on from the Dean campaign that has seen legislators of all levels, staffers and volunteers impact the system, we will see this new energy from the Obama campaign do the same...and more. This country is going to need those people - us - to stay engaged in order to bring about the changes we so desperately are seeking...he won't be able to do it alone.
I've heard from many people that that's their biggest fear...can he REALLY make a difference. He's not a stupid man, he has got to know that the heart of this nation is clinging to him and his message like a liferaft after being adrift at sea for 8 years...they're just hoping there's no leak.
So, I know I'm hijacking your diary a bit, but just curious...with Nader officially hitting the campaign trail this morning, what you guys have to say about that? I know waaaay back you previously supported him and have been critical since, just curious as to what your thoughts are now in his round 2 of Quixotic campaigning?
As for local campaigning, I spent all day yesterday in Jackie Speier's congressional campaign office...making signs, entering donations, stuff. She's running for Tom Lantos' vacant seat in a special election on April 8. She's a very well liked and respected legislator around here and should be a shoe-in in this very blue county (although it did go for Hillary!), but there's talk that Lawrence Lessig is considering entering the race. There are a lot of techno-geeks and a strong netroots that would probably love to get him into office, but he'd be starting waaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind the eight ball. He's not a bad choice and has lots of good to offer, I just don't think he'd be successful at this point. He's got until tomorrow to decide...it will be interesting.
Weather sucks here today...rain and 30+ mph winds...good day to play on the computer...oh, and do laundry...better get to it!
Cheers, hugs & good luck!!
GO TEXAS!! ;)
Wishing you success from Washington state
