Ok, so it didn't really begin today, but it definitely kicked up a notch. I saw it in the eyes of other volunteers, heard their exciting speech, did the happy dance with them. And why are we all so damn happy right now? Because the staffers will finally appear out of thin air tomorrow. Apparently we just have to light some candles and chant, and POOF the staffers appear amongst the swirling smoke and flickering lights.
If that happens I am going to just shit. What will most likely happen tomorrow is that there is a meeting for the serious volunteers (prepare to give up all your time and energy until March 5th). Here is the information:
Tuesday Night Kickoff Meeting for Tarrant Obama CampaignWho: You, and every other Obama supporter you know who plans to work to make this happen.
What: Organizing Meeting, Mid Atlantic Poll Watch and Spaghetti DinnerWhen: Tuesday, February 12, 6:30 - 9:00p.m.
Where: East Fort Worth Montessori Academy located at 501 Oakland Blvd. Fort Worth 76103 (corner of Randol Mill Road and Oakland).
Why: Because we have only three weeks to get three months worth of work done!
Donation: $5 to cover the cost of the meal and refreshments.
Please, share this information with anyone you know who is interested in working to get Barack Obama elected President. Seating is limited, so no need to bring spectators or tire-kickers. We are expecting more than 200 so please arrive early and car-pool if possible.
If you want to help set up, be there after 4 pm because we need to set up the tables and chairs.
Tomorrow should be fun and it will be nice to have a coordinated effort. I heard a rumor today that we will be getting 12 staffers in Tarrant County. They will be at the North (Stockyards) office in the afternoon. Stop by there if you have some time to spare. They need people to make phone calls, register walk ins and get things organized, copied, filed, sorted, etc.
I met Dorene (Doreen?) and the lady who is coordinating the East Ft. Worth office at the school this afternoon. It's really nice. I want our kid to go there! They have these really neat gardens out back, a log cabin, and a green house, and I just wanted to fucking enroll myself. And, it's a charter school so you don't have to be rich to give your child a quality education.
A nice lady named Sandy Joyce gave us a tour and then showed us the gymnasium/auditorium. It's pretty big, and the is a balcony along one side with a railing perfect for hanging banners on. On the opposite wall there is a three foot high stage with a big projector screen on the wall above it.
We will be setting up around 200 chairs and tables for a spaghetti dinner/meeting. There will be results from Virginia on the screen and great conversations at every table. This is the party to be at if you want to jump in with both feet.
Personally, I am loving the shit out of volunteering with these people. You will too. Volunteer today.
