There is a disease that has been spreading across the nation for a while now. This disease has weakened our resolve, taken away our hope and made us distrustful of our governmental institutions and each other. That disease is doubt.
When I hear fellow citizens explain how they don't vote because it doesn't matter, I am hearing that doubt. They no longer feel they have any power to institute change. Maybe it's that they feel their representatives in government have stopped listening. Maybe it's that they feel disconnected from those around them, afraid to speak with people in a different political party or economic class. What ever the reasons, too many people in this country have grown doubtful of the effectiveness of our republic to provide anything useful to its citizenry.
We can overcome that doubt by bonding together. We have the power to create change when we are united behind a cause. We as a people have been divided for too long, and now it is time for us to all come together and change things for the betterment of everyone.
I'll be completely honest here, Barack Obama was not my first choice for a candidate to support. But after hearing him speak about hope, after seeing how people from all walks of life can rally around him, I began to realize that what this country needs right now is someone who understands that we are all Americans first. We cannot fix what is wrong with this country if we are not talking to each other, and Barack gets that.
Look, if you are unsure still about supporting him, I understand completely. People have been let down so many times in the past that it's hard to believe in a candidate. But look at his record. Barack has lived like the rest of us and he doesn't run from that fact. He grew up in a family like everyone else's, not perfect. He has fought for many of us when he didn't have to, but instead chose to. And now he is asking us to come together and help him take on a system that no longer works for the rest of us.
I can't guarantee he will be the perfect POTUS, no one can. But I do think we as citizens have a better chance of having our voices heard with him in the White House then with anyone else running. But what's really exciting to see is how so many Americans who were not talking with each other are coming together around Barack's message of hope. And that is the true power here, the message that can overcome our doubt.
What started in 2004 with people powered politics is spreading across this nation. The POTUS is only one person, we are millions. We have the power to institute change. We have the power to stop doubting ourselves and start rebuilding this great nation into the beacon of hope it once was.
It all starts with you and me. We have the power right here and now to change America for the better. Barack Obama has reminded me of that. And that's why I am supporting him for POTUS. He gets it people, and I don't doubt that for one second.
Together we can take our country back. And Barack Obama has the message to unite us. So wake up America, it's time to be great again.
